The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a financial instrument
for the reduction and sequestration of greenhouse gases, such
as the CO2. Developed under the Kyoto Protocol, it will be
soon an excellent opportunity for developing countries, such
as Brazil, to develop sustainable, environmentally-friendly
projects.
The present eligible CO2 sequestration activities
within the CDM are forestation and reforestation, which have
to be approved by national entities and the executive council
of the CDM, and monitored & certified by a third party.
Since the CDM is expected to be effective
soon, IGCert is already prepared for the monitoring and certification
processes of CO2 sequestration projects.
